Venturing Leadership Training
Venturing’s Nature of Leadership(NOL)
This program is designed to develop the Venturer’s leadership skills using exciting and fun leadership learning experiences.
Phase 1 of NOL is the Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC)
The Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC) is designed to help teach young adults the attitudes and skills that good leaders demonstrate. Practicing and mastering these skills will help enable Venturers to have positive leadership experiences. VLSC was specifically designed to be taught to all Venturers in the crew. It is recommended that the crew advisor and/or the crew officers conduct the course. If your crew is small, you may want to conduct the course with other crews and/or groups. VLSC is now a requirement for the Silver Award and the Advisor Award of Merit.
VLSC is usually an overnight activity that covers leadership skills in four workshops: 1. Vision, 2. Communication, 3. Organization and 4. Synergism. Each module is introduced by an activity and followed by reflection.
Phase 2 of NOL is the Kodiak (6 day high-adventure trek-oriented Course).
Kodiak Venture Youth Leadership Trek
The new Kodiak Venture Youth Leader Training Trek is here for summer of 2008! Kodiak is the Venturing youth leadership course offered in an exciting and challenging atmosphere using high-adventure resources. This course will offer backpacking, white water rafting, mountain biking, COPE course, and perhaps horseback riding.
Participants will enhance their leadership skills in a fun and challenging way through the five Kodiak Leadership Commissions of 1. Effective Teams, 2. Values/Vision, 3. Communications, 4. Decision Making and 5. Planning. This course is an unforgetable high-adventure trek designed to develop the leadership capabilities of the participants.
Kodiak is not taught indoors in a classroom; it is done completely outdoors in nature’s workshop.

Phase 3 of NOL is the Kodiak X course which is a weekend leadership challenge course that builds on the leadership commissions learned in Kodiak. During the weekend, participants will review what they learned at Kodiak, and learn two additional commissions of: 1. Evaluating 
Performance and 2. Mentoring.
They will also have an opportunity to practice their leadership skills while serving as a leader of their team as they face challenging scenarios.
