on belay - the course

This course is for all Youth and adults connected with the Varsity Scout program: Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Boys, Charter Organizational Representatives, Committee members and District Staff members. The purpose of this training is to ensure that a quality, fun filled program is delivered to every scout unit in the Great Salt Lake Council.

Leaders gain an understanding of the program and their responsibilities in order to have a positive influence on the boys in your unit. While gaining knowledge, leaders learn the necessary skills, available resources, and gain confidence in carrying out their roles.

Boys learn that working with adults can be rewarding and fun. Learning how to manage a program that they have developed while using the Varsity Coach and his committee to provide the necessary support.

On Belay presents "how to" in planning and conducting successful Varsity Scout programs and overnight campouts using outdoor activities as one of the methods. It reinforces - but does not duplicate - Adult Wood Badge training and Youth Powderhorn experiences. This course provides "hands-on" learning experience in camping and outdoor skills as done by the Varsity Scout methods. This is a full week of fun and learning.

Are we planning to pioneer a whole new theory now? NO... we are actually now focusing enough attention on the program to adequately train Boys and Coaches on how an effective team can be run.
