COPE COURSE (ROPE COURSE) Challenging Outdoor Physical Encounters. A six event course that will test your physical and mental strength. You will have the opportunity to lead, follow, and work as a team member testing your developed and undeveloped skills. Growth from this course is guaranteed. The course will require a team effort to successfully complete. WATER FINDING Learn the latest techniques of water gathering including demonstrations of solar still and transpiration bags. DIRECTION FINDING Learn how to identify direction without a compass, using natural signs, watches, sun and stars. Also learn to take care of yourself when you get lost. SURVIVAL KITS You will be shown how to make a usable survival kit, including a survival mirror, matches, or lighter, fire ribbon/tablets, fishing line and hooks, dried fruit, candy, cordage and knife. EMERGENCY SHELTERS A demonstration on types of emergency shelters. Varsity Scouts will participate in making a survival shelter. ARCHERY Primitive and competition bows will be allowed. PERSONAL BOWS MUST BE KEPT IN STORAGE AT THE ARCHERY RANGE AND MAY ONLY BE BRACED AND USED IN THE ARCHERY AREA. NO COMPOUND BOWS. RESOURCE: Archery Merit Badge pamphlet FLY TYING Learn basic aquatic insects in all life stages- nymphs, emerges, adults and spinners. Life cycles - when they appear and flies that match the food source. Tie a "Boogy" fly for your fishing good luck charm. Learn the tools and methods of fly tying. WOOD CARVING Spend some time with the best. Scouts will have the opportunity to learn wood carving. RESOURCE: Wood Carving Merit Badge pamphlet FIRST AID First Aid is a skill that every Scout must have. Learn first aid skills and pass off the First Aid Merit Badge. RESOURCE: First Aid Merit Badge pamphlet SHOTGUN SHOOTING (THE RANGE) Calling all marksmen: rookies and veterans alike. Whether you are a first time shooter or more experienced, come show your keen eye and steady hand on the rifle range. The range will be run by a certified range master who can give basic gun safety and shooting tips. Best shooter scores will be posted on the bulletin boards. This is a pre-registered event and each shooter will have an opportunity to shoot 5 shells. .22 RIFLE RANGE .22 caliber rifles and ammunition will be provided - NO PERSONAL GUNS OR AMMUNITION ALLOWED. The first ten shots for each scout or leader are included in the price of registration. Additional ten shots may require an extra fee. CAMP) Your team was trapped behind enemy lines and you ended up here in the East Fork POW camp. An uncertain fate awaits you-- unless you can escape! A successful escape will require skill, endurance, brainpower and lots of teamwork! Each Varsity Scout should bring a commando rope, gloves and lots of enthusiasm.
