Frequently Asked Question’s

What is NYLT?

The National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting new program from the
Boy Scouts of America. NYLT was developed as the Council component of youth
leader development as part of Youth Leader Training. Units now should train their
youth leaders using the new Troop Leader Training (TLT) syllabus.
When a young man completes TLT, he may then qualify to take the Council NYLT Course.

As an adult, how does NYLT benefit my unit?

NYLT is a departure from JLT and is now synchronized with the Wood Badge Syllabus. Youth leaders trained through NYLT return to their units with the same or similar skills as those taught to adult leaders at Wood Badge. Imagine an adult Scouting leader and a youth leader both trained with the same skills leading a unit. The synergy is there to make a bigger difference in how your unit will function.

What can I expect at NYLT-SILVER Moccasin?

The staff of Silver moccasin is committed to making it a great experience. You will live in a patrol setting of six Scouts; where you will use your skills to lead and develop your team. The week concludes with each patrol developing and presenting their vision of the meaning of leadership.

What will I get out of NYLT?

Every participant will take home the self-confidence, skills, ability, and motivation to lead other youth, through practical application of NYLT skills. You will learn skills such as conflict resolutions, stages of team development, how to teach others, and geocaching. You will set goals for yourself and your home unit, to share with your Scouting leader.
