December -- West Jordan Scouts Learn Pioneering Skills Troop 1584 at the Fall Camporee 2006
West Jordan Boy Scouts and their leaders participated in the annual Fall Camporee in September sponsored by the Golden Eagle District. The event was held at the Willows Park near Lehi with scouts doing various knots and lashings to build an assortment of structures. Before the camp, district scout leaders Tom Stanley, Richard Humphries and Darin Furnell traveled to the Ashley National Forest near Flaming Gorge to obtain the necessary logs. After getting the required permit, the trio proceeded to cut 50 Lodgepole pine trees which produced an inital 100 logs for the scouts to use. Another 50 trees allowed by the permit await a return visit to complete the task. The poles are planned to be used in future activities throughout the district to help scouts complete rank advancements and the Pioneering Merit Badge. |
