Event Description

Lifesaving Merit Badge requires significant skill.  Young men need to be very proficient swimmers, to complete this merit badge at camp.

  • Swim continuously for 400 yards using each of the following strokes in a strong manner for at least 50 continuous yards: front crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke.

Note to Scoutmasters:

Bear Lake is a natural body of water with a current and, especially early in the season, a relatively low temperature when compared to most swimming pools.

Boys who struggle to pass the swim test in a heated pool may not have sufficient strength or ability to complete skills in the colder waters.

Weather Advisory:

The safety of participants is paramount to our camp.  Therefore, aquatics activities may be suspended due to adverse weather conditions as directed by BSA national camp standards.

While the camp will attempt to provide alternative times to complete merit badge activities suspended due to advesrse weather, we cannot guarantee that this will be possible.
