capital campaign

Generations before us had the vision to secure property and develop camps far beyond their needs. It is now our turn to secure Scouting's future. With the development of our area, if we do not secure additional property soon, it will become impossible to do so. We must look decades ahead and ask ourselves: "Where will they camp?", "How will they experience the outdoors?", and "Who can they count on?" Our capital campaign theme is "Investment in Character." Contributions to this effort are investments in character.

Growing Membership
The population in the four counties we serve (Salt Lake, Tooele, Summit, and south Davis) is growing. Continued growth is projected, reaching over 2 million people in the next 40 years. The membership in the council is growing along with the four counties we serve. Membership is expected to exceed 100,000 in 2020.

Our Camps at Capacity
Camp is an essential component of Scouting, for weekend activities as well as summer adventures. Nationally, councils are camping about 57% of their Scouts. Our camping capacity has not increased to match our growth. We are currently able to camp about 30% of our youth on our properties. Without additional development, the percentage we can serve will drop to 16% in another 30 years.

Campaign Time Line
Our campaign is three-stage. Our objective is to begin securing lead gifts in the third quarter of 2006. Major gifts will begin in the second quarter of 2007 followed by the universal or community gifts in the fourth quarter of 2007. Naming opportunities are available for all major projects.
