Local High Adventure Activities


Camping

  • Rock Cliff State Campground is a great place for tents only camping, lots of wildlife, fishing, and boating on Jordanelle.  There is a small cost per site or the group site is $75 per night with a $100 cleaning deposit.  The hot showers are great.

 

Full-moon Snowshoeing

  • rent snowshoes from REI
  • good locations:
    • Wasatch State Park near Heber City


Geocaching

Geology

  • Topaz Mountain State Park outside of Delta is a fun place to hunt for topaz.

 

Hiking

  • Local Hikes
    • Timpanogos Cave is also a must see for the scouts.  Again there is cost involved with the canyon day use fee and then the fee to go through the cave, but it is well worth the cost.
  • Local Peaks
  •  
    • Kings Peak (Utah's Highest Peak) - via Henry's Fork drainage
      •  25 to 30 miles round trip depending on route
      • Best done in 3 days.
    • Lone Peak
    • Mt. Timpanogos
    • Mt. Olympus
    • Sunset Peak via Catherine Pass
      • 4 miles round trip
      • Spectacular views of Alta, Brighton, and Heber Valley


Shooting

  • West Desert - you must have an NRA certified instructor with you.
  • The Heber Valley Gun Club is also 20 minutes away (from Rock Cliff State Campground) for shooting clays.
