Commissioner's Message

Dear fellow scouters:

As the 2014 Winter Olympics have come to a close, we reflect back to the spirit of the games; a healthy competition of the best of the best from throughout the world. This year two of the four members of the United States, Team USA four man bobsled team are also Eagle Scouts. Steve Holcomb and Utah native Chris Fogt received the Bronze medal in the bobsled event.

Even though our Scouts have not yet competed in the Olympics, they still make their mark as they learn leadership skills and service to others. At the recent Klondike camp they also competed with other Scouts from around the District. Here they were able to function as a team while practicing what they have learned. Way to go Scouts, paving the way for generations to come.

We would also like to offer congratulations to David L. Beck, General Young Men President and Rosemary Wixom, General Primary President for the Church on being selected by the Boy Scouts of America, National Court of Honor to receive the Silver Buffalo Award. In the 88-year history of the award, just 741 have been awarded for “noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth” on a national level.

President George Albert Smith said, “We want our boys to be the finest Scouts in all the world. We should appropriate every good thing that Scouting teaches us because it is a part of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

~Johnny Hayes, ADC
