This project consists of researching, developing and providing a backpack program geared for boy & girl scouts. Merit badge activities encouraged. Benches – Develop and fine tune your carpentry skills while you enjoy the outdoors. Build and install benches along the foothills at Red Butte Garden. These benches are used and appreciated by school children and visitors as they enjoy the natural beauty of the foothills. Trail Maintenance – A great way to get started in back country preservation. Help us keep our trails user friendly by repairing drainage routes, trail steps, trail widening, and pruning along the foothills at Red Butte Garden. Plant Mapping – Gain great GIS, mapping, botany and plant id skills. Help us keep a tab on our native and invasive plants by mapping plant populations along the foothills at Red Butte Garden. Invasive Plant Species Removal – Help us keep the Natural Area the most pristine foothill region along the Wasatch front while you learn about plant identification and botany. 801 324 5167 EAGLE SCOUT PROJECTS The US Forest Service and Draper City will be supervising the building of wild country non-motorized trails in the southeast part of Salt Lake County. Much of the work is being accomplished by Eagle Scout candidate projects. The completed trails will allow access to the Lone Peak, Mount Jordan and Corner Canyon Wilderness areas for all of the public. These wild lands are home to almost all of the large animal species native to the State of Utah. The trails are highly visible and are a unique value to the public, particularly due to the beauty of the land, the wildlife who live there and the accessibility to the trails for the people of the Wasatch Front. Trail use has increased greatly every year, providing unequalled health and recreational benefits. Trail construction offers the Eagle Scout candidate important planning and supervisory opportunities. Completing a trail project will be a personally rewarding experience for the scouts, as well as introducing them to the world of trail use. In a meeting with a project coordinator, the program will be explained to the Scout and his adult tutor (parent or Scoutmaster). When he accepts the program outline, and assigned coordinator will instruct and guide the Scout throughout the project, assisting the Scout with the important planning and supervisory responsibilities. The coordinator will explain the importance of safety, the value of cooperation on the Project, the safe use of trail tools and the principles of sustainable trail design and construction. The BSA Eagle Project policies will also be reviewed. An information sheet will be furnished to the Scout that he can use to review with his workers at the beginning and during the project. We have just moved to a fabulous new 3.5 acre facility that has been completely renovated by a donor into a spacious, functional, comfortable shelter for our animals awaiting adoption to their forever homes! We still need help with the following, perhaps from Scouts going for their Eagles! •build sturdy cat towers and rafters for climbing and perching in our cat room.
•possibly design and build outdoor doggy playground equipment: ramps, teeter-totters, jump hoops, platforms, weave poles, etc., out of sturdy plastic that can easily be collapsed, moved, and stored.
•get plants and pavers donated, install them in our Memorial Garden
•help build a 4-stall barn, from blueprints and materials provided in a "complete barn kit" we will purchase.
•Ongoing: Donation drives for quality dog and cat food, cat litter, cleaning supplies.

We have been approached and worked with scouts before. We found it to be a challenging and rewarding experience for the boys involved. We have a fairly turn-key approach that provides materials and instructions to complete a successful book drive. The measurable results, (the number of books that get collected) offer a keen sense of accomplishment and the program itself provides the boys with a great platform for leadership development. Participating in a book drive with Worldwide Book Drive is also a great way to take part in a crucial part of improving our worldwide community through literacy.

If you are not familiar with the March of Dimes Teddy Bear Den I have included information below. The Teddy Bear Den is an incentive program that provides free baby care products to low-income pregnant women in the Salt Lake valley as incentives to practice healthy behaviors throughout their pregnancies. Teddy Bear Den clients "earn" points toward incentives, such as diapers and infant clothing, through a variety of positive, health-promoting activities: attending prenatal care appointments, participating in prenatal education classes, keeping appointments for well-baby visits, etc. The program is designed to encourage women to do the best they can to have a healthy pregnancy, and further the March of Dimes' mission of preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The Teddy Bear Den targets the populations most likely to have inadequate health care and lack financial support. We hope to improve the birth outcomes for these women and their babies. We depend on items donated by businesses and the community to stock the Teddy Bear Den and provide essential items to pregnant and parenting moms in need. Donated items help alleviate the significant financial burdens placed on low-income pregnant and parenting women by providing them with the baby care items they could not otherwise afford. marchofdimes.com Organization: Operation Give Is an organization that helps soldiers, they need stuff for stocking stuffers, the stocking stuffers can be turned in on Fridays, from today till November first between the hours of 5-8 p.m, except on Halloween, that week the stuffers can be turned in the next day November 1st between 9-12 am, they also need help in sorting out other items The Valley Center Playhouse in Lindon Utah is a registered non-profit organization in the state of Utah. It is a true community theater where all of the actors, directors, technical staff and often the playwrights work and donate their time and talents from the community for the community. They are in need of new carpets, simple repairs such as nailing down floor boards, seat cushions recovered, the outside cleaned up and de-cluttered, help with organization of costumes and props, painting, etc... There are several odd jobs as well as large projects that could be taken on. They wish to add on to the front of the building to provide more closet space and a nice entry way. Scouts needed in the event-possibly Eagle Scouts looking for projects to complete. We would like someone to set up two mock campsite areas on the zoo campgrounds as models of how to be Bear Award when camping. We would need that person to also man the site during the event and to talk to the public about good camping etiquette and handout Bear Awarde materials (which the zoo will provide). We need to have two campsite models created to show the difference between a good, clean, "Bear Aware" campsite, and a messy, unsafe campsite. For the "Good" campsite we would need a small tent, a canvas/plastic odor containing bag, rope (to hang the bag from a tree), fire pit (stones, wood), food locker type container (not a cooler)... (we may be able to get some of these items donated). For the "Bad" campsite we would need a small tent, bottles (full or empty) of toiletries, deodorants, food containers etc., cooler, and a small amount of trash (wrappers, paper plates, cans). Unfortunately there is little shade and our members tire quickly. Last year we were able to purchase a gazebo to provide an outdoor classroom, and respite from the summer sun. Once we received the gazebo we learned that a foundation would need to be built prior to construction. We are seeking a Scout to help acquire materials and build a stone foundation for a 14 x 14 gazebo. We have the plans and details on preferred materials.
